Miss Bent and the 1B classroom

SOLE and TPACK and HPC

My teaching pedagogy, is underpinned by contemporary theoretical evidence including the Quality Teaching Framework, Technology Pedagogy and Curriculum Knowledge Framework (TPACK), inquiry-based learning and Self Organised Learning Environment (SOLE) I provide authentic learning contexts where students can become successful, confident, creative individuals, and active, informed citizens using a range of technologies in the classroom. I provide my students with multiple opportunities to set learning goals and regularly reflect on their creative, expressive, imaginative and critical thinking skills.

SOLE stands for Self Organised Learning Environments. SOLE sessions create the opportunity for students to work independently or collaboratively in small groups. It often involves the integration of ICT to support research. SOLE sessions are used to allow children to form their own deep understanding of various topics, it allows them the opportunity to explore the area of the topic that interests them, encouraging higher engagement. We take SOLE further in Terms 3 and 4 by ensuring regular, ongoing inquiry sessions. Terms 1 and 2 focus on forming a good understanding of how to pose meaningful, open ended questions and how to locate keywords in search results to build understanding. I then encourage students to use these keywords to form their next inquiry to further deepen knowledge. SOLE sessions are dynamic and exciting for students who are actively engaged in steering their own learning in a way which suits their individual thinking and existing topic knowledge.

TPACK stands for Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge. The TPACK framework focuses on bringing together knowledge of subject matter, what is good for learning, and technology (ICT). By using this framework I can go beyond just using ICT as an addition to tradition teaching approaches. I focus on using ICT as a tool to access and understand the subject (TCK) and apply ICT to support and enhance this learning (TPK) in combination with the teaching of the content knowledge (PCK).

HPC stands for High Possibility Classrooms. High Possibility Classrooms is a new model for technology integration, based on research completed by Dr Jane Hunter, of exemplary teachers who integrate technology into their classrooms. In 2015 at Wahroonga Public School I fully engaged as a volunteer to work with Dr Jane Hunter, on a “High Possibility Classrooms” Action Learning project with other K-6 teachers. We successfully and collaboratively planed, designed and implemented differentiated teaching and learning programs that address the ACARA General Capabilities and ICT capabilities in particular.  In my classroom students are given many opportunities to become creative, expressive global citizens. Together with TPACK, here is an overview of the 5 conceptions used in HPC model that I apply when using technology in the 1B classroom.

I have approval from Dr Jane Hunter to publish this image and information regarding the framework.
